Coach House Gallery

In one of the lodges of the manorial coach-house, a ‘one-exhibit’ gallery was situated. From 1994 to 1995, Magdalena Abakanowicz, outstanding Polish sculptress, realized in Orońsko her works from the series War Games. The series, begun in 1987, consisted of monumental objects of wood and steel rims. The mighty branches had been the victims of a roadside cutting. The artist was delighted with their solemnity and pathos, touched by their helplessness and suffering. She decided to save them from annihilation, by transferring them into another, artistic existence. In the CRP workshop, two of her sculptures were completed Runa and Ukon. Both were officially presented in 1995, at the artist’s monograph exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Sculpture in Orońsko and at the Centre of Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw. The next presentation took place in Copenhagen and Stockholm (1996). Then, Runa was bought by the Marlborough Gallery from New York, and Ukon remained in Orońsko as a permanent deposit.

The ‘Coach-House’ Gallery is a small room in the middle part of the building with 62 m2. The remaining rooms have been adapted to suit administrative, storing and domestic needs.
